Triathlon race Talisay's dry run for Ironman event

CEBU, Philippines - The first ever Talisay Triathlon Race on March 25 will not only highlight the American landing celebration, but also serves as a dry run for the 2012 Ironman Philippines 70.3 this August.

Talisay is one of the cities, which have been tapped for the staging of the prestigious event particularly as part of the bike route.

“This is in preparation of the Ironman Philippines. This will determine if we are really capable to co-host the race especially in the bike route," said councilor Rodi Cabigas in a new conference yesterday at the People's Hall of Talisay City Hall.

The Talisay joust is limited only to the first 200 registrants.

Among the age-group categories to be contested are the 19-under, 20-29, 40-39, 40-49 and the mixed relay. They have to deal with a 1,000-meter swim, 30K bike and 7.5K run.

There will also be a special division for kids that include 10-under, 11-12 and 13-14 age brackets. They will compete in a 300m swim, 8K bike and 3K run.

Cash prizes, loot bags and certificates of recognition are at stake to the top three overall winners. the top finisher will take home P5,000, while the second and third will pocket P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,000 inclusive of a finisher's medal and t-shirt and recovery meal.

Entry forms are available at the Talisay sports commission office, Runnr at Ayala Center Cebu and Vicky's Marketing - Tabunok, Manalili and Naga branches.
