Queen City pads win streak to four in UFL
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Queen City United FC stretched its hot streak to four games in a row with a 6-1 drubbing of Forza FC in Division 2 of the 2012 United Football League (UFL) yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Queen City, thus, jumped to third in the overall standings with 16 points anchored on its five wins against two losses and a draw.
Forza almost scored the first goal of the match with an excellent shot at the 15th, but the ball was deflected by Cebu’s goalie Charles Villarta.
Four minutes later, a header from midfielder Rene Menchavez, Jr. off a beautiful set-up by Benedict Luis Arriola went in to the delight of the Cebuano booters led by head coach Mario Ceniza.
Eight minutes after the halftime break, Arriola dished out another perfect assist leading to a goal by Rommel Cuizon and a 2-0 lead for Queen City.
In the ensuing play, Forza scored on a penalty kick to cut Queen City's lead to only one, 1-2.
However, that was the best Forza could muster as Dan Villarico found the back of the net after slicing through Forza defenders to give Queen City a 3-1 breather at the 65th.
Marion Cubelo and Jaymile Conmigo joined Queen City' scoring rampage with goals at the 87th and 90th, respectively.
Not to be outdone, team captain Jan Michael Flores drilled in a goal before the final buzzer to seal Queen City's five-point romp. (FREEMAN)
