CEBU, Philippines - Aspiring hoopsters who want to sharpen further their skills on the hardcourt are in for another exciting summer treat as the 19th edition of the Sunsport Basketball Training Camp will kick off on April 2 at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club along D. Jakoselam Street, this city.
Veteran coach Jojo Romarate, who will supervise the longest and best-run cage camp in the Vis-Min region, said the first phase of training is intended for the beginners. It will run until April 27.
"At this stage, we will teach our students the fundamentals of the sport such as proper shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork and other related drills," said Romarate, presently the chief bench tactician of the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Skybalzers.
Romarate added that the second part of the camp, which will be held from May 1 to 25, is for the advanced level.
"It is at this point that we shift our mode of instruction to a higher level. We will now be imparting to the campers some offensive and defensive strategies, on-court communication and other technical aspect of the game," said Romarate.
"Above all these drills, we want to instill in them the value of hardwork, discipline and teamwork as well as the spirit of sportsmanship, which is the very essence of a well-rounded athlete," he added.
For the beginners, the training session is set from 8 am to 10 am and from 10 am to 12 noon during weekdays. The same schedule applies for the advanced level.
Registration fee is pegged at P1,100 inclusive of a jersey, latest edition of Sunsport basketball, shoe bag and t-shirt.
"Aside from the sporting goods that we are giving away, we assure all participants that they will get their money's worth in terms of the quality of training will are going to render to them," said Romarate.
