Padyak Pinoy this weekend
CEBU, Philippines - More than one hundred cyclists from around the Central Philippines will saddle up for the 2nd Sports Tourism- Padyak Pinoy Visayas qualifying race set this weekend.
This year’s event features five categories – Elite A, Veterans B, Masters C, Golden D and Executive E.
The two-day race will kick off this Saturday with Stage 1 featuring a 60-kilometer route from Cebu City passing Brgy. Uling, Naga to Toledo City.
Sunday’s Stage 2 is a 40-kilometer race that will start from Toledo City to the southwestern town of Aloguinsan and back.
Since this is the qualifying race for the LeTour de Filipinas that is set on April 14 in Cagayan Valley, elite cyclists are expected to compete.
Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medalist John Rene Mier is the most notable among the Cebuano riders that will join.
Other top caliber Cebuano bets confirmed their participation are Jaybop Pagnanawon, Marvin Tampic, Elmer Navarro, Albert Basergo and top junior cyclist Niño Surban.
Aside from Cebuano cyclists, out-of-town riders from Bacolod City and Tacloban City are also expected to join.
Cash prizes and trophies await the winners.
Registration fee is pegged at P75 per entry. Registration sites are located at the Mandaue Reclamation, South Road Properties and Toledo City Sports Commission.
