US trip awaits Sonsona if victorious in Feb. bout
CEBU, Philippines - Former WBO super flyweight champion ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Sonsona takes another step in reclaiming lost glory as he will be sent by his manager and international promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani to the United States to train.
For that plan to materialize, the 21-year-old Sonsona must hurdle first his upcoming ring assignment against Carlos ‘El Flaco’ Fulgencio of Dominican Republic slated on February 25 at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
The fight was originally scheduled on February 4, but Gello-ani was forced to move it to February 25 to gain more time in promoting the event.
Sonsona sports a 15-1 win-loss record packed with 12KOs, while Fulgencio carries a 19-5-1 card dotted with 15 stoppages.
After losing his WBO crown to Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vasquez two years ago, the General Santos City fighter made a successful comeback in October last year, beating Mexican Carlos Jacobo by a resounding unanimous decision.
“This will be Marvin’s last fight here in the country because after this, I will bring to the US to do an extensive training as our next move to see if he is ready for another world title shot,” said Gello-ani.
“Sa pagkakaron nakita nako nga focus man siya sa iyang training didto sa Mindanao and let's just wait and see. Ato makita if unsa iyang improvement this February 24,” added Gello-ani. (FREEMAN)
