CEBU, Philippines - The country’s first-ever all-Women Ultra Marathon unfolds on March 10 starting at Ayala Center-Cebu Active Zone and ending at Rendezvous in Lapu-Lapu City.
No cash prize is at stake, but the top 3 performers will feel like beauty queens with a crown, a sash and a scepter awarded to them.
The event is in line with the celebration of the International Women’s month. It aims to empowering more women through running.
The organizing Cebu Ultrarunners Club and Ungo Runners also want to give back to female volunteer-ultra runners who have been with them in all the battles they went through in running.
The organizers make sure that the participants will be pampered all the way and ensure them a safe race even if the route will not be closed to traffic.
Entry fee is pegged at P700 inclusive of a finishers’ shirt and a unique medal. Registration centers include Onze at Capitol and Clinica Melgar at Doña Luisa Building.
The organizers want to prove that an event like this can be done even with an inexpensive registration fee through spirit of volunteerism.
A Singaporean have registered, so far, while runners from other places in the country have already sent feelers to join the event.
Over a hundred fitness buffs are expected to show up and make it to the 10-hour cut off time set. - THE FREEMAN
