Cebuana swimmer wins gold in Para Games

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuana swimmer Beariza Maria Josephine Fulache Roble made a splashing performance at the pool to haul one gold and two silver medals in the 6th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia.

Roble clocked in 1:04:84 to reign supreme in the 50m butterfly S6 classification. She defeated Vietnam’s Thi Sari Nguyen (1:30:24) while Nguyen’s teammate Thi Cua Pham settled for bronze.

The 20-year-old Roble, a student of Cebu International Distance Education College, was doubly happy as she broke a record in the 100m freestyle event even though she just settled for silver medal.

Roble finished behind Thailand’s Chaisawa Thongbai (1:30:77) but her time of 1:53:89 was still counted as a meet record.

Roble got her other silver in 50m butterfly event.

The PHL squad fielded in 11 swimmers who came up with seven golds, three silvers and a bronze.

Overall, PHL snared 23 golds, 23 silvers and 18 bronzes. – (FREEMAN)
