Cardenas predicts 2-0 sweep for Mexico in "Pinoy Pride X"

CEBU, Philippines - Marcos "Geraldito" Cardenas boldly predicted yesterday that it's going to be a clean 2-0 sweep by the Mexican fighters against their Filipino rivals from the ALA Boxing Gym in the 'Pinoy Pride X' this Saturday night at the Hoops Dome in Brgy. Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Cardenas will face rising ALA Stable star Genesis "Azukal" Servania (15-0, 5KOs) in the supporting main event of the mega-fight card topbilled by IBF International featherweight champion Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista against dangerous Mexican challenger and Miguel Angel Mendoza.

In a press conference at Mooon Cafe in Cebu IT Park, Cardenas expressed his gratitude to ALA Promotions but told them that picking him up to slug it out with Servania is a big mistake.

It another shocker for ALA Promotions and some members of the media, Cardenas clarified that his real record is 19-0 spiked with 12KOs and not 12-0 (9KOs) as initially reported.

Considered as one of the youngest boxing sensations in Mexico, Cardenas seemed to be sure of winning together with his compatriot Mendoza, who earlier vowed to knock Bautista out within six rounds.

"No doubt, it's going to be 2-0 for Mexico this Saturday," said Cardenas. "This is a good opportunity for me to fight a great boxer like Servania and I am confident that I will win."

The 21-year-old Cardenas said he will show a different type of Mexican warrior this time, not like

Gerson Guerrero who was battered by Servania last September 10.

"With a younger age, I think my fighter (Cardenas) will have a much greater chance of defeating Servania compared to Guerrero who was clearly past his prime," said Cardena's trainer Jesus Edmundo Gaytan.

All the protagonists of "Pinoy Pride X" will face each other for the first time in the final press conference this afternoon at the EGI Resort and Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City. The official weigh-in will be held on Friday at Pacific Grand Mall in Mandaue City. (FREEMAN)
