Cebu attracts record entries in 21K of Unilab Run United

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu sets a record field of over a thousand runners for the half-marathon of the Unilab Run United for Wellness set on December 18 at the Cebu IT Park in Brgy. Apas, this city. Cebu broke Baguio leg’s record of 600 entries under the 21K class.

With that, Cebu aims next to surpass Davao's total number of participants of 4,200.

So far, a total of 2,200 runners have already signed up for the Cebu leg and the organizers led by award-winning sportsman Ricky Ballesteros are optimistic the number would increase since the deadline for registration is on December 16 yet.

Registration for the 10K, 5K and 500m categories are still open at Runnr in Ayala, Toby’s at SM and at the Cebu City Sports Center. One may also enlist online at www.unilabactivehealth.com or at www.runrio.com.

The 500m is divided into boys and girls 5-8 and 9-12 age brackets.

The organizers are confident of attracting as many runners possible as the final leg features not only running but the Unilab Active Village where a lot of side events, product samples from Unilab plus a spa for the finishers are going to be set up.

Four schools will also showcase their wares in cheerdance competition. These are the University of Cebu, University of the Visayas, Southwestern University and University of San Carlos.

Meanwhile, the organizers bared during yesterday’s press conference at Café Noir that the race route for the 21K run will have some changes since the road construction at Capitol is still unfinished.

From the IT Park, instead of going right to Capitol, 21K runners will have to go straight to Kinasang-an, Pardo.

The roads will be half closed for the safety of the participants. - THE FREEMAN
