Sta. Fe, Catmon dominate Cluster V in GUV Cup volleyball
CEBU, Philippines - Sta. Fe and Catmon swept their opponents to secure the championship titles in Cluster V of the 7th Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup the other day at the San Remigio Sports Complex.
The Sta. Fe spikers proved to be a force to reckon with as they posted a perfect 4-0 record to clinch the men's title. They beat San Remigio, 25-5, 25-18, Bogo City, 25-9, 25-14 and Bantayan, 25-15, 25-15 before fending off the equally-tough Sogod in three sets, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20.
Despite the setback, Sogod still made it to the quarterfinal round for finishing second to Sta. Fe. Sogod beat San Remegio, 25-10, 25-12, Bogo, 25-14, 25-21 and Bantayan, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23.
In the elementary level, Sta. Fe’s younger comrades also bagged the title after they crushed Tabogon 25-17, 25-20, Madridejos, 25-8, 25-9 and Bogo, 25-14, 24-25, 25-22.
Tabogon, on the other hand, took the second spot after defeating Bogo, 25-12, 25-22, and Madridejos, 25-19, 25-13.
In the distaff side, Catmon reigned supreme after racking up five wins in a row.
The Catmon belles trounced San Remigio, 25-8, 25-5, Bogo, 25-12, 25-12, Sta. Fe, 25-20, 25-8, Bantayan, 25-15, 25-11 and Madridejos 25-6, 25-7.
Sta. Fe finished second after edging out San Remigio, 25-11, 25-11, Bogo, 25-11, 25-6, Bantayan 25-18, 25-13, and Madridejos, 25-17, 25-12. (FREEMAN)
