UV's Muaña stops stablemate in less than two minutes

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - Mardie Muaña of the University of the Visayas (UV) fought as if he has a hidden anger against his teammate Dann Lou Codilla as he relentlessly threw a barrage of punches that led to stoppage before the end of the first round during the final action for October of the Summit Natural Drinking Water Amateur Fight Series at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark.

Muaña stopped Codilla at the 1:47 mark of the opening round in their 56 kgs. due.

Another UV bet, 34 kgs. Ariel Sibay, stole part of the show by scoring a 3-0 whitewash of Philippine-Australia Boxing Club’s Raul Tarona.

Two other PABC bets also faltered in their respective bids. 45 kgs. Vic Sitto lost to Sultan Kudarat’s Mervin Lulu, while 52 kgs. Axel Torbiso bowed to Consolacion’s Ritchue Montealto.

Cabancalan, on the other hand, ended its campaign with a 3-1 win-loss card.

52 kgs. JK Malupay dumped Jimboy Mayang, 45 kgs. Bryan Paden prevailed over Richard Kilatan and 45 kgs. Polid Banal pulled off a close 2-1 decision over Flores Boxing Club’s Melmak Dignos.

30 kgs. Rebel Reyes, however, was outpunched by Banilad’s Gabriel Besinga.

54 kgs. prospect Rolando Lingao-lingao also had the time of his life after stopping Camotes’ Elemar Banal with a crushing blow to the head at 1:07 of the first round.

The other winners were Richard Barrios of Bais over Jason Formentera of Camotes, Kevin Jake Cataraja of Talamban against Christian Bacolod of Mabolo and Rey Morales of Bacolod against Elmo Traya. (FREEMAN)
