Lee shines in Alta Vista Monthly Medal

CEBU, Philippines - Korean Paul Lee led the winners of the October Monthly Medal of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last Sunday shooting two-over-par 74 to bag the lowest gross honors for class A.

Lee fired nines of 38 and 36 to achieve the feat.

Lowest net honors for the premiere handicap class went to Alex Yeo with a net score of 70 strokes off a gross 78. Runner-up honors went to Toby Florendo with a net 72 strokes.

Ed Acain ruled class B with a gross score of 80 strokes on nines of 37 and 43.

The lowest net honors for class B went to Rene Piano with a score of 69 strokes while runner-up honors went to Vince Colina with 74 strokes beating his former basketball teammate Bobby Barria and Roy Damole in the countback.

Lawyer Elias Espinoza won the lowest gross honors for class C with 81 strokes.

The lowest net for class C was James Tan with a net score of 71 while Jun Tolentino, who fired 76 strokes, was the runner-up.

Rolando Alberto had a 13-over-par 85 strokes, but this was enough to give him the lowest gross plum for the seniors’ class.

Lowest net among the seniors was Jun Zosa with 72 strokes while Loreto Alburo finished as runner-up with 74 strokes.

Ed Sanchez fired 101 strokes and won the lowest gross honors for the super seniors’ class.

Ericka Lim, who is preparing for the Alta Vista Jungolf Challenge, which tees off on Thursday, bagged the lowest gross honors for the distaff side with 81 strokes.

The lowest net score among the ladies was registered by Choi Yi Hwa with 70 strokes.

For the guest division, top junior golfers Gen Nagai and Lloyd Jefferson Go won the top honors.

Nagai fired a tournament-best 73 strokes for the lowest gross honors while Go, who shot a net 70, was the best among the non-members in the 18-hole tournament.

Both special prizes this month went to Tessa Ozoa, who was nearest the pin on hole number six leaving 5 feet and six inches for a birdie putt and had the most accurate drive on the 11th landing his tee shot a foot away from the center line. - (THE FREEMAN)
