Barba bags title in downhill event

CEBU, Philippines - Another Barba dominated the Bawing Bucariza-presented 2011 En Route to the Bottom Mountainbike Downhill Race in Ilang-ilang, Talisay City the other day.

JR Barba won the expert open class of the said event, a week after Wendel Barba showcased his wares in Argao.

Barba, who comes from Dumaguete City, clocked a minute and 28.39 seconds as his best time in the 1-kilometer route.

Barba’s teammate Remi Scott was second with a time of 1:30.60.

From cross-country, Cebu’s Eusebio Ravanes also showed he can do downhill after coming out third with a time of 1:39.20.

Motocrosser Dongkey Sanchez ended fourth with 1:41.

Last year’s champion Carlos Russel was next with a time of 1:43.16.

On the other hand, Billy Bagano claimed the executive class title with 1:44.33 as against Jokie Gonzales’ 1:47.49.

Fulvio Narsiso came out third with 1:48.38 while Jonathan Vergara was fourth with 11:51.76 while one of Cebu’s former top motocrosser who became executive director of the Cebu City Sports Commission, Gene Faelnar placed fifth with 1:52.13.

Maximo Villarta was the fastest in the beginner’s division with 1:44.45 while the second to fifth spots were occupied by Julius Amicable (1:46.65), Van Allen Chua (1:50.77), Tommy Rojas (1:53.62), and Michael Tabasa with 1:54.35.

“We would like to thank everyone who joined the race and for those who supported us to make this happen especially to MCWD who let us use a portion of their property as a racetrack,” said Bawing Bucarisa the presentor and organizer of the event.

The said event which held in honor of Sta. Teresa de Avila is also supported by Oz Racing, Rockstar Energy Drink, V12, T.W.O, Sunstar, and Madbam. - THE FREEMAN
