Opening match fizzles for QCU in UFL
CEBU, Philippines - The opening match of Cebu’s Queen City United Football Club in the United Football League did not push through as scheduled yesterday.
The QCU FC arrived in Manila late Saturday for yesterday’s match, which was scheduled at 1 p.m.
Early yesterday morning, organizers of the UFL announced that the games set at the University of Makati field were postponed due to the conditions of the pitch.
Stanley Villacin, one of the team officials, told The Freeman yesterday that they requested that the venue for the scheduled match against Pachanga FC of Bacolod City be moved to another venue.
Villacin explained that the team had already traveled to Manila and it would be a waste if they could not play.
He said that the organizers decided to reschedule one of the matches at the Ayala Country Club field that was between Manila-based teams to accommodate the request of the Cebuanos.
The team was scheduled to play at 3 p.m., but Villacin said, their opponents could not anymore be contacted.
He said that QCU FC will be filing a formal protest with the UFL.
There are four teams playing in seven groups of this inter-club tournament dubbed as the country’s premiere league.
Action started last Saturday.
QCU is in Group C along with Pachanga, Global FC, and Stallions FC.
The next game of the Cebuanos is scheduled this weekend against Global FC and their last group game is on the 22nd against Stallions.
The top two teams of each group will advance to the round of 16. – NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
