The big weekend
After a few weeks wait, the big weekend is here. The United Football League (UFL) opens this 4 p.m. with the game featuring Global FC against Stallions FC at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Field in Manila.
Not too long ago, I was in a dinner meeting with officers of the Cebu Amateur Football Club led by Ricky Dakay and Santi Araneta of the Kaya FC and the UFL.
This was held at Casino Español de Cebu and Santi was inviting Dakay’s group to field a team in the premiere club tournament of the country.
Ricky was both excited and hesitant as he wanted to field a team, but at the same time would not want to come up with one that would just easily get beaten.
That is all part of history now as the Queen City United Football Club of Cebu will debut tomorrow at the University of Makati Field against Pachanga FC.
The Cebuanos are in Group C along with Global FC, which has Cebuano goalkeeper Paolo Pascual, and Stallions FC.

If you happen to be in Metro Manila this weekend and in the coming weekends, find time to watch the games of Queen City United and cheer for the Cebuanos.
Glenn Quisido, president of the CAFC and one of the team representatives of QCU told me yesterday that the team had two weeks to practice.
He said that it would be hard to make pronouncements as to how far they would go, but the initial goal is just make it to the top two of the group.
Tomorrow’s opponent, Pachanga FC is based in Bacolod City and coached by former national team member Norman Fegidero.
“Our game tomorrow will tell us much about our chances in the tournament,” Quisido said.
The team is set to leave tonight and will be back home late tomorrow after their game.

If you have nothing much to do today and would like to enjoy a round of golf, head to the Club Filipino Incorporada de Cebu course in Danao City to join the 10th Ateneo-La Salle Golf Classic Cebu.
You don’t have to be an alumnus of either a Jesuit (Ateneo) or Christian Brothers (La Salle) school to join. This is because there is a guest division for those who would just like to see for themselves the fun the alumni of the two schools have in this friendly competition.

It is still over two months away, but registration for this year’s Christmas Fun Golf Classic at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club is now open.
Entry fee is pegged at P2,700 and this is exclusive to club members.
Giveaways are a specially-made Alta Vista belt as well as other items including a shirt, cap, mug, and towel all specially-made for the club.
