Calderon off to Italy for int'l final

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano Jette Calderon is one of only two Filipinos, who made it to the International ROK Cup Final in Lonato, Italy, left for the European country yesterday to compete in the race set on October 13 to 16.

A total of 300 drivers from 35 countries are seeing action in the international event.

The other karter from the Philippines to make it to this international final is Franco Victor Reyes.

Both Filipinos are competing in the Junior ROK class.

Lord Seno, sporting director of Kartzone, told The Freeman that Formula Vortex ROK 125 is a type of engine for professional karting.

Calderon, a junior high school student at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, started karting at the age of 4 years old under the tutelage of his uncle Manger, who is also a racing buff.

This is his second stint in the international finals as he made it also to the same event four years ago.

Jette’s parents are Emmanuel ‘Jun-jun’ Calderon, Jr. and Janette Climaco Calderon.

His father told The Freeman last weekend that they had to make sure to get the proper permission from Jette’s school before leaving for this international event.

Jette’s triumphs in karting is also recognized by SHS-AdC, which is emerging as a sports powerhouse among the schools in Cebu. (FREEMAN)
