Green, Blue, and Pink

This Saturday will be for the colors green and blue.

This as the 10th Ateneo-La Salle Golf Classic Cebu will be teeing off at the Club Filipino course in Danao City.

Ateneo is also gunning for its fourth straight title this year and their ninth overall.

Looking at the list of players that have signified for the La Salle squad, it seems the odds are again stacked against the Green Archers as the Blue Eagles have the alumni and students of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu to lean on.

I will be one of the SHS-AdC Magis Eagles this weekend as my son is playing for the team opposite mine.

There will be ten points at stake for the lowest gross of each handicap class, eight for the lowest net, six for the first runner-up, and four for the 2nd runner-up.

There are three handicap classes and an open category for those who are not alumni of Jesuit (Ateneo) or Christian Brothers (La Salle) schools.

The team that has the most points will win the overall title.

Players from out of town or those who are members of clubs that are not part of the Regional Handicapping Network – Alta Vista, Cebu Country Club, Club Filipino, and Mactan – need to present a handicap certification.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,500. And I am paying for the registration fee of one of our opponents hehehe…

After we will be classified under two color categories on Saturday, come Sunday let us all support the cause under one color – Pink.

This as the Pink October Run will start and finish at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.

Registration is still going on at the Think Pink desk in the Active Zone of Ayala Center Cebu.

If you don’t know yet, October is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

Yesterday, I received a touching text message from somebody whose number is not in my address book. I recently had problems with an old phone and switched to a new one so I don’t have all my contacts.

The message was about Teachers’ Day. Having spent a little over a decade as a teacher in Journalism at St. Theresa’s College and the University of the Visayas, I personally know the joys and the pains of being a teacher.

I saw for myself also what my mother, a dedicated teacher, has gone through her life.

I would, therefore, like to thank all my teachers, for helping me become what I am now.

This is a day late, but happy Teachers’ Day to all of you!
