Colis, Dumlog, San Isidro win titles in Talisay caging

CEBU, Philippines - Teams Colis, Dumlog and San Isidro reigned supreme in their respective divisions at the end of the 2011 Talisay City Mayor’s Cup basketball tournament at the city’s sports complex.

Veteran commercial player Jan Villaver exploded with 31 points as Colis subdued Jocyn, 94-88, to clinch the championship in the open class. Villaver's stellar showing earned him the coveted MVP trophy.

Villaver was heavily backed up by his fellow star players in Liga Pilipinas in Nat Cruz and Stephen Padilla, who banged in 26 and 18 markers, respectively.

Villaver, Cruz and Padilla also made it to the elite Mythical Five selection along with Jocyn’s Jefford Aldave and Celso Colegado Jr.

In the seniors division, Dumlog 1 lifted the champion's trophy after outsmarting Tabunok, 79-74.

Seguerra led Dumlog 1 with 16 points as Jordan Bardillas and Christopher Obeso contributed 14 points each. Obeso walked away with the MVP honors that automatically earned him a spot in the Mythical Five alongside Harold Sacares, Jexreel Meting, Jemar Dela Pena and Jordan Bardilas.

In the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) category, San Isidro dumped Pooc A, 79-69, to take home the title.

A strong third-quarter performance catapulted San Isidro to victory.

Top center Joshua Rommelle de la Cerna charted 17 points for San Isidro on the way to claiming the MVP award. He was joined in the Mythical Five by R-Jie Catipay, Niño Obeso, Richard Gutana and Rommie Pesiao.
