Akira pounces CCC in Aloguinsan cagefest

CEBU, Philippines - The Akira/Metrotiles defeated Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC), 107-97, in the 2nd Aloguinsan Mayor's Cup Open basketball tournament at the Alodome in the southwestern town of Aloguinsan, Cebu.

In the opener, the Angilan Destoyers lived up to their monicker as they demolished the Gerongco Lumber, 95-75.

Alano Caputolan topscored for Akira with 25 points even as three others also finished in double figures.

Carmen Copper was led by Danny Aying, who fired a tournament record 42 points while Alex Cainglet exploded with 32 markers in a losing effort.

The Aloguinsan cagefest started last Saturday with Charmys hacking out a 97-85 victory over Triple L and Inner-G prevailing over the ACES, 124-102.

Wowie Escocio topscored for Inner G with 38 points, while Jercules Tangkay chipped in 22 points.

Former USC Warriors' guard Vernini Tangarorang scored 34 points for the ACES even as Demo Nuevo Filoteo finished with 28 markers.

On the other hand, Danny de los Santos had 28 points for Charmys and Eliud Poligrates banged in 40 points for Triple L.
