UV pugs Shine in Cortes boxfest

CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas pugilists swept its assignments in the 3rd Mayor Jonas Cortes Boxing At the Park Amateur Series 2011 at the New Mandaue Public Market last Saturday night.

Leading the cast for UV is Dann Lou Codilla, who handed Rey Morales' first defeat in three fights here.

Morales was supposed to fight Rolando Lingaw-lingaw in the 55 kgs. class but had to be moved to a lighter weight category that saw Codilla dominating all rounds.

Codilla’s teammates were just as successful with 52 kgs. Wendel Acharon defeating Cherwellan Cantel of Cabancalan NHS, 33 kgs. Ariel Sibay overpowering Raul Tarona of the Philippine-Australian Boxing Club, 36 kgs. Ramil Tuñacao dumping Joshua Francisco of Omega Boxing Club and Janriel Jecong pulling off a 2-1 win against Junille Olivares of the University of Cebu. - THE FREEMAN
