Talisay Broders win title

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay Broders paid tribute to one of the front-liners of softball in their area not only by being a gracious host, but by winning the Gorgonio “Gonyong” Bonjoc Sr. Softball League last September 11 at the Talisay City Central School grounds.

The Talisay Broders pulled an 11-7 victory against the Liloan Selection in the final battle.

Tisa, which was beaten by Talisay in the semis, wound up third after beating the Jagobiao batters.

The late Gonyong Bonjoc first introduced softball to barangay Poblacion with his sons as players.

Softball then became a tool for his sons and other Talisaynons to finish college through athletic scholarships mostly at the University of the Visayas.

Even after Bonjoc’s passing, softball remains one of the favorite pastimes of the people of Poblacion, Talisay and made it a way to bring honors to their city through winning different competitions all over the province. (FREEMAN)
