CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers easily dismantled the University of San Jose- Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 78-54, at the start of the second round of elimination in the 11th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season last Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.

In showing their dominance, the Lancers held the Jaguars to a measly eight points in the fourth period. They also limited the Jaguars to just nine points in the second quarter on the way to post a 16-point advantage at halftime.
The Jaguars had a good run in the third canto, but the best they could muster was to come within 10 points, 46-56, as the Lancers finally break the game wide open in a dominating fashion.
Phil Mercader, Edrian Lao, Rene Jun Saycon and Chris Perolino connived for 51 points as the Lancers improved their win-loss record to 5-2.
Abulaiz Suliman, the Jaguars' lone force in the middle, charted 14 points. Jason Nudalo and Jason Olbedado each scored 10 points but their efforts went for naught as they slumped to their sixth defeat against a solitary win.
In the secondary matches, the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens scored a repeat performance over the Baby Jaguars, 83-60, while the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC) Magis Eagles plastered the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves, 93-61, to extend their unbeaten streak to nine.
Meanwhile, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers seek to duplicate their 62-59 upset of the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras in tonight's lone collegiate match. - (THE FREEMAN)
