PCL-Cebu Sportsfest kicks off on Friday

CEBU, Philippines - Councilors from different congressional districts of Cebu will flex their athletic muscles with the staging of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)- Cebu Provincial Federation Sportsfest set to blast off this Friday at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

Six teams from different legislative districts of Cebu will go up against each other in the two-month event featuring basketball, volleyball, bowling, practical shooting and a series of fun run.

“We think this is a good stress-relieving and team-building activity for them (councilors),” said Cebu Provincial Board Member and PCL president Carmen Remedios “Ivy” Durano-Meca during the press conference the other night at Café Laguna.

Durano-Meca added that a total of P300,000 in cash prizes are at stake for the winners in each sporting discpline.

The opening ceremony starts with the traditional parade of teams namely White (1st District), Green (2nd District), Violet (3rd District), Red (4th District), Yellow (5th District) and Aqua Blue (6th District).

Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, 6th District Rep. Luigi Quisumbing and Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes headline the list of luminaries invited to grace the kick-off bash, while Eddie "Digul" Gullas III of Talisay City, the PCL Cebu Provincial Federation Vice President and the country's youngest councilor, will deliver the welcome remarks. - THE FREEMAN
