SCSIT batters rule Liloan softball

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - The Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) batters hammered out host Liloan, 8-4, to clinch the championship of the 2011 Sta. Cruz Softball Tournament at Sta.Cruz, Landing in the municipality of Liloan.

The victory wasn't served on a silver platter though as SCSIT had to go through a do-or-die battle with Tinzkite before advancing to the final round.

Liloan, booked the first final ticket and had a good rest while waiting for their next opponent.

But Liloan couldn't make it as an advantage as the SCSIT standouts banked on their experience and vast maturity in batted sports to seal the deal.

The first inning saw Rolly Bacarisas handing SCSIT its first score, while Liloan got two through the efforts of Ronald Jugalbot and Lester Magdadaro.

SCSIT then came up with three runs in the ensuing inning courtesy of veterans Genaro Macayan, Abrin Pautan and John Abella, while allowing Liloan to hit only one point from Franklin Tortosa.

The two protagonists went scoreless in the next frame before Tortosa posted a homer in the fourth canto to tie the score at 4-all going into the fifth inning.

Roldan Bacarisas answered Tortosa’s performance with his own homerun in the upper part of the fifth inning.

SCSIT’s Ben Arkonsel and Rolly Bacarisas added one run each in the final two innings, while only Mark del Rosario scored for Liloan, paving the way for playing coach Isyot Bacarisas and his wards to take home the champion's trophy. - THE FREEMAN
