UC stamps class

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters once again look headed to dominate the Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals.

This as the team has amassed a total of 140 points after two days of action. The number of points earned is enough to help the team keep the overall title in the secondary division.

“I’m happy for the athletes and coaches for this feat. I know they were practicing really hard. This is already a great blessing for us. Since the start of the Milo Little Olympics, we have been dominating the tournament. The strong support given by our administrator was also one great factor” said UC athletic director Bernard Ricablanca.

Abellana National School (ANS) is a far second with 46.5 points while the University of San Carlos- Basic Education is at the third spot with 39 points.

Meanwhile, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu topped the elementary division with 56.5 points followed by Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) and University of Bohol with 50 and 45 points, respectively.

Table Tennis

The UC crown paddlers swept the boys and girls secondary division titles of the table tennis event.

The powerful team composed of Dannel Jay Tormis, Val Stephen Jaca, Lemuel Agbon, John Paul Christopher Ba-ay and Fausto Zeus Comaingking defeated Don Bosco Technology Center.

Athena Comaingking, Jerame Soromines, Diana Oliverio and Lezlie Agbon took the women’s tiara after crushing Talisay Malayan Academy.

In the elementary class, Cebu City Central School and Severo Duterte Memorial Elementary School secured the boys and girls titles, respectively.

Sipa/Sepak Takraw

The Abellana National School sepak takraw team remained undefeated as they stopped Tayasan National High School in straight sets, 21-0, 21-0.

Catmon Central School, on the other hand, made a surprising finish after dominating the sipa event fending off Mambaling Elementary School, 21-12, 21-11.

Lawn Tennis

Bright Academy netters stopped University of San Carlos’ (USC) ten-year dominance in the secondary girls division, after thrashing the latter in the semifinals yesterday at the Alta Vista tennis court.

Mary Claire Lazaga of USC made an impressive start after blanking Celina Paredes, 8-0, in the first singles.        

However, the duo of Stephanie Kim and Shyne Villareal bounced back as they thumped Edelweiss Donaire and Nathalie Alipe, 8-6.

In the deciding match, Jana Pages saved Bright Academy as she overpowered Carmille Magno, 8-1, to secure a finals slot.

Exciting action in lawn tennis, badminton, volleyball, gymnastics, taekwondo, chess and scrabble resumes next weekend at various venues. - THE FREEMAN
