Better fields
Before anybody took so much notice about football, the San Roque Parish field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City has already been known as the center of the game in this part of the world.
Early in my career as a sportswriter and photographer, I spent Sundays at San Roque to cover the tournaments that were held here.
There were not really too many tournaments then, Cebu had about two every year. Luckily for the new generation, so much has changed since then and tournaments are now happening on a very regular basis.

I am writing about San Roque because of a recent post on the popular social networking site Facebook, which showed the poor conditions of the field during a tournament.
The pictures showed that the grass wasn’t cut and there were puddles in many parts of the field. Due to the heavy rain, we can’t avoid the puddles and the mud, but maybe something could have been done about the grass.
Those who posted the pictures are hoping that something can be done about the poor conditions of the field.
This field is owned by the parish, but the residents of the area are allowed to use it.
With the surge in the popularity of football, maybe we can get more people to chip in something to help improve the areas where the sport is played.
This won’t be easy, but not impossible to do. I would like to call on the leadership of the Cebu Football Association to take the lead. It would be nice to see the few areas available for football to be improved.

MILESTONES: Happy birthday greetings to my favorite radio personality Super Bobby Nalzaro, who is turning a year older today. The same goes to my mistah Gerry Pariñas, Atty. Marla Barcenilla, Harry Guinocor, and my footballing comare Anna Suizette Nemeño.
Advance greetings to those celebrating tomorrow like Carlos Yu, and Marvy Morales, the better half of my good friend Edwin.
