CEBU, Philippines - Barangay captain Pancho Ramirez of Sto. Niño emerged as champion in the 1st Cebu City Barangay Captain's Shootfest last Sunday at the Kamagong Gun Club firing range in Central Command, Brgy. Apas, this city.
Ramirez outsmarted four of his counterparts in all five stages, while Binaliw's Wilson Bacor copped the first runner-up honors.
The other barangay captains who joined the event were Pastor Alcover of Agsungot, Victor Buendia of Labangon and this writer of Apas.
In the barangay kagawad category, Rudy Quiseo of Kasambagan was the overall winner followed by Jerome Puerto of Day-as.
In the barangay tanod class, Jojo Montemayor and Louie Villagonzalo of Sambag II reigned supreme.
The other champions in different categories were Famor Arestil (standard); Junie Gepitulan (production); JP Almadora (open); and Jose Pante (PNP).
Giovanni Trinidad ruled the single stock category, while Raymund Jimenez wound up second.
The one-day tilt drew over 100 participants coming from different gun clubs, NP and other government agencies.
Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama graced the awarding ceremony at Waka-Waka Grill along Wilson Street in Brgy. Apas.
Rama said he will be helping financially the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) under the leadership of Michael Ralota of T. Padilla to initiate another contest of such kind in order to enhance the barangay captains' skills in using their government issued firearms. — THE FREEMAN
