DepEd-7 steps up preparations for CVIRAA Meet
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd)-7 gears up for the staging of this year’s Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet set from November 27 to December 2 mainly at the Carlos P.Garcia Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City.
This was disclosed by DepEd-7 regional director Recaredo Borgonia yesterday at the Cebu City Vice Mayor’s Offfice conference room.
Borgonia said they are closely coordinating with the different schools divisions under Central Visayas to avoid another “conflict” with regards to the athletes’ selection process for the Palarong Pambansa.
“Circumstances got it going. Now with strong coordination, malikayan na ang problema. Sports events last year were overlapping so we have to do an athletes’ evaluation after the CVIRAA to come up with a good team for the Palaro,” Borgonia explained.
More than anybody else, Cebu City was mainly affected the athletes' evaluation last year.
With that, DepEd-7 officials coordinated with the City government first.
“It was not a standard procedure, but we have done it due to unavailable circumstances. We want the best athletes to be sent to the Palaro so we’re doing it,” added Borgonia.
Borgonia said it will not happen again with Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young ironing out the schedules of event ahead, minus the activities of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc.(CESAFI).
“I stand by my decision. We don’t need CESAFI. We need the schools. It’s up to them if they join or not,” said Young.
Aside from mapping out the schedule of events, DepEd-7 along with the Cebu City government are preparing the teachers for their own training on officiating and coaching in different sporting disciplines. - THE FREEMAN
