CEBU, Philippines - After the Great Lapu-Lapu Run, the city of Lapu-Lapu found another way to promote a healthy lifestyle among its constituents with the staging of not just one but nine races spread in the next four months in different barangays.
Dubbed as the 'Health Run', the event will kick off on August 6 at the Mactan Shrine and ends on November 19 at the Pusok Millenium Park located under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
The rest of the leg schedules are August 27 from Ibo to Buaya, September 10 from Bangkal to Pajac, September 24 covering Maribago to Agus, October 1 from Marigondon to Subasbas, October 22 from Gun-ob to Basak, November 5 from Babag to Canjulao and on November 12 from Poblacion to Looc.
This is an inter-barangay competition exclusive for Lapu-Lapu City residents only, according to councilor and sports commission chairman Harry Radaza during a press conference yesterday at Pino Restaurant.
Registration is free although a one-time optional membership fee of P200 is pegged for those who want to get singlets and a member baller band. Members will also get a chance to win prizes during a raffle draw.
“I wanted to find a way to reach out to those who can’t afford and make Oponganons fit and healthy,” Radaza said.
The first two legs will feature 1.5K, 3K and 5K, while the third leg will have 6K as the longest race length.
To add challenge, the fourth to sixth legs will have 2K, 4K and 6.48K, the next two legs will have 3K, 6.48K and 8K, while the final leg will have 3K, 6.48K and 10K.
