Tabal, Duenas top Sonshine 12K run

CEBU, Philippines - After a week's rest from competition, Mary Joy Tabal and her training partner John Philip Duenas are back with victorious bids in the premiere division of the 1st Cebu Sonshine Run at Ayala Center-Cebu's Terraces yesterday.

Tabal zoomed ahead of Christy Sevilleno-Tutor to claim the women's 12-kilometer title.

She finished in 47 minutes and 38.31 seconds way ahead of Tutor's 50:52.83.

Madelyn Carter placed third in her return to action as well while Jhean Andrin and little-known Marichu Velez occupied the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

While Tabal had an easy going, Duenas had to go through the wringer against the likes of Ian Bernido, Adonis Singson and Noel Tillor.

Duenas outsmarted the rest in the final stretch to claim the men's title with 42:03.75 clocking while Bernido settled for second with 42:04.36 and Singson ended third in his 42:08.16.

Lovely Fe Andrin ruled the women's 6-km division with a time of 26:33.80 and was trailed by Path Torremoro with 31:17.31 and Rejeeli Sumaya at third place with 32:27.17.

In the men's side, Jobert Carolino led the cast with 20:54.55 as Sherwin Managil came out second with 21:11.35 and Jess Gonzaga placed third with 221:15.80.

Another Adrin, Cherry claimed the top spot in the girls' 12-under covering 3-km. She clocked 13:50.15 as against Lynlie Cardenas'14:05.26 while Mary Joy Loberanis placed third with her 15:02.51 clocking.

In the boys'12-udner, the top three were Narky Lucero (12:28.85), Lester Elmar Ceniza (13:33.90), and Joseph Lauron with 13:36.46. — THE FREEMAN
