CEBU, Philippines - After debates and some objections, it has finally been decided that the Sacred Heart Alumni Basketball Association will now be called the Sacred Heart-Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA).
The unveiling of Cebu's premiere alumni basketball association's new name and logo will be done during the opening of the 16th edition of its basketball tournament at Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City on July 24.
Regan King, who is on his second term as president of the association said that re-branding is part of their goal of going bigger and better.
"We're doing the big leap. We are committed to improving the association better and make it very exciting for all of us," said King during the SCOOP Forum at Baseline Sports and Recreation Center yesterday.
From SHABA to SHAABAA, aside from basketball, they have opened their doors to other sporting events including the hosting of a football festival, a novice swimming competition last month while upcoming events include bowling, badminton and running.
As for its centerpiece event, the basketball tournament, this year's action will be dubbed as the Cebu Landmasters Cup.
"The Cebu Landmasters is very much aware of the growing popularity of sports including at Sacred Heart that is why we are here to support this event," said Cebu Landmasters marketing head.
A total of 14 teams have so far signed up including a guest team composed of SHS-AdC's faculty and staff.
Two more teams are also expected to join this round-robin action.
Confirmed teams include the RDAK/Edcon, Kunstof UPVC Windows and Doors, Gaisano Capital, Istorya.net, KIA, Mackent, A+ Structures, Kiki's Catering/JAPFA, San Remegio Beach Club, Filmon, Dyna Cast, Mixed Batch, Batch 2010 and the faculty and staff of their alma mater.
