FEU Tamaraws to hold tryout this weekend at USC gym
CEBU, Philippines - Aspiring Cebuano hoopsters will have the chance to be part of a decorated UAAP member school as the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws will hold an open tryout this weekend at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Main gym.
The extensive selection process will be spearheaded by no less than the comebacking FEU coach and Cebu's pride Bert Flores assisted by former PBA star Vic Pablo. The training session will take place from 2 pm to 5 pm today and 12 nn to 3 pm on Sunday.
Flores said the tryout, which will cater to both high school (juniors) and college (seniors) aspirants, is part of their massive buildup for the upcoming UAAP season set to kick off this July.
The multi-titled bench tactician from the municipality of Conso-lacion advised all interested cagers to come into the venue in complete basketball uniform.
"I'm proud to be a Cebuano that's why I am scouting for potentials here to be part of our team. Most of all, I believe in the talent and capability of the Cebuano players to excel in Manila leagues as prestigious as the UAAP," said Flores, who is best known for steering the Arwind Santos-powered FEU squad to the UAAP championship in 2005.
Through the years, FEU has minted a plethora of hardcourt warriors that made waves in the PBA, some of them are still in active service with Asia's first play-of-pay league in the mold of Arwind Santos, Mark Isip, Celino Cruz, RJ Rizada, Jeffrei Chan, Jonas Villanueva, Leo Avenido, Cesar Catli, Marc Pingris, and Dennis Miranda.
Johnny "The Flying A" Abarrientos, one of the brightest stars FEU had ever produced, is currently one of Flores's lieutenants at the FEU bench along with Pablo and Ritchie Ticzon. Jorge Gallent, the head coach of B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados, will serve as team consultant (FREEMAN)
