- Lemuel P. Maglinte -

CEBU, Philippines -  This year’s edition of the World Fair Trade Day Run that is set on May 29 at the UC Banilad campus grounds will bring much more good intentions not only to local producers, but also as an advocacy for fighting climate change.

Dubbed as Run for Green Life 2011, the annual race organized by World Fair Trade Organization-and Road Revolution-Cebu features a 3K fun run, a 6K Open, 6K barefoot, and a 15K run.

“Aside from being a highlight for our celebration of the World Fair Trade Day, this run will also spread advocacy and our aim to solve not only poverty but also climate change that also affects our local producers,” said Geraldine Labradores of Southern Partners and Fair Trade Center during at the press conference yesterday at Fair Trade Shop Cebu.

Lawyer Tara Rama of Road Revolution will also use the run to gather support and signature for their petition for a City Ordinance concerning about building more walking sidewalks and bike lanes in that they see as a solution for growing traffic and pollutions in the city.

The organizers are even hoping for more runners to join surpassing last year’s 1,500 participants.

The top three performers of the event will receive cash and a native inspired trophy.

Registration fee is pegged at P250 for 3K and 6K and P300 for 15k this entitles the runner to a singlet and snacks. Entry forms are available at the Cebu City Sports Center, Fair Trade Shop, UC Banilad campus, Runnr, Terra Plana and Barefoot in Ayala Center Cebu. (FREEMAN)
