BPI, PICPA zap foes in CUBA hoopla

- EBV -

CEBU, Philippines - The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) rolled over separate foes in the continuing action of the 2011 Cebu United Bankers Association (CUBA) Summer Basketball League at the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Parish gym along Escario Street, this city.

The BPI cagers rode on a second-quarter scoring blitz to walk away with a 63-59 victory over the Heat, while PICPA also banked on a sizzling offensive in the second frame to cool off the Suns, 75-66.

BPI trailed by a matchstick after the first period, 15-16, but staged a daring rally in the second canto to grab a 30-22 edge at halftime and the gain full control of the match the rest of the way.

Likewise, PICPA unloaded a powerful second-quarter bomb to blow off the Suns. After a 17-all deadlock, the PICPA stalwarts unleashed a 27-13 spurt to post a commanding 44-30 advantage at the intermission.

The Suns couldn't recover from there onwards and could only trim the deficit down to a single digit at the final buzzer.
