Ultramarathon Negrense, Australian dominate

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - First-timers Aivan Villalon and Australian Natasha Davis lead the survivors of the FrontRunner Magazine’s Coast to Coast Ultra Marathon from Toledo City to the Capitol building grounds via the transcentral highway yesterday.

Villalon’s hardwork, determination and endurance made him survive in an unfamiliar territory.

A native of Sipalay, Negros Occidental, the 21-year-old Villalon was leading all the way and finished the 65-kilometer action in six hours, 22 minutes and 52 seconds.

More than just winning the title, Villalon was happier that he was able to accomplish his bet with Cebuano Charlie Berberio that he would finish the race in six hours.

Berberio trailed Villaron in 6:36.21, while the third to fifth spots went to Renz Gabuya in 7:01.37, Benedict Balaba in 7:10.13 and Vergilio Belicario in 7:11.02.

Davis, on the other hand, claimed this year’s women's crown with a time of seven hours, 28 minutes and 19 seconds.

Melinda Ponce placed second in 8:36.46, while Cynthia Arnaiz wound up third in 9:15.43. (FREEMAN)
