E-Mall to host Rose chessfest

CEBU, Philippines - Over a hundred chess players are expected to converge for the Rose Pharmacy Chess Tournament on April 30 to May 1 at the Activity Center of Elizabeth Mall.

Chess masters already confirmed their participation. They are led by International Master Kim Steven Yap, who will be joined by FIDE Master Anthony Makinano and FIDE Arbiter Jobannnie Tabada, a former varsity player and sports editor in Cebu City, who just arrived from Dubai.

Tabada is an active chess player with high FIDE rating and current president of Dubai Chess Club.

The tournament will follow the nine rounds straight Swiss System format with time control of 20 minutes each player and 10 seconds increment.

The champion will be pocketing P5,000 while the second and third placers will get P4,000 and P3,000, respectively. The fourth placer will have P2,000, the fifth will receive P1,000 and the sixth to 10th finishers will get P500 each.

Registration fee is pegged at P50 for Kiddies and Ladies class, P100 for students and P150 for the open group.

Registration will start at 10am to 12nn on Saturday, April 30 at the Elizabeth Mall Activity Center. The games will officially start at 1 pm.

The two-day chess tourney is sponsored by Rose Pharmacy Inc. and organized by the Cebu Chess Federation.
