Looc, Centro dominate Mandaue volleyball tilt

CEBU, Philippines -  Barangay Looc successfully defended its throne in the women's division, while Centro snatched the men’s crown in the 4th Mandaue City Mayor’s Cup Volleyball Tournament at the city hall grounds.

The flashy Looc belles of coach Grace Antigua easily dismantled Umapad, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22, behind the hard-hitting attacks of former RP Youth member Genie Sabas, RP Beach Volley mainstay Usabelle Brillo, Lynneth Auza and Mariel Froilan.

In the men’s bracket, Centro had to pass through a four-set thriller before dethroning Subangdaku, 25-22, 16-25, 25-19, 26-24.

Among those who vaulted Centro to victory were the likes of Clifford Café, Julius Heyrosa, Wendell Alcos and Adrian Cabahug among others.

Banilad placed third in the men's class, while Centro wound up third in the distaff side.

Aside from trophies and medals, the champions pocketed P20,000 each, while the second and third placers got P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. (FREEMAN)
