Favorites top brackets in Talisay beach volley

- Marigold Lebumfacil -

CEBU, Philippines - Two beach volleyball powerhouse tandems topped their respective brackets after the elimination round of the 3rd Talisay Beach Volley the other day at the landing site in Poblacion, Talisay City.

Former Nestea beach volley national champions Florian Gutierrez and Jusabelle Brillo topped bracket A followed by Ivy Abella and Jumabelle Abellana in the second spot.

Southwestern University’s Danika Yolanda Gendrauli and Princess Anne Pido, on the other hand, dominated bracket B while the duo of Genie Sabas and Kenneth Garces of Froilan B completed the semi-final cast.

To recall, it was the tandem of Brillo and Sabas, which reigned supreme in last year’s action but this time, they decided to split and find new partners.

The crossover semi-finals is slated this Saturday featuring the clash between Ian/Brillo against Froilan B in a curtain raiser battle followed by Iveah against SWU B in the second game.

The winners will automatically advance to the championship round in the afternoon.

Aside from medals and trophies, the champions will be pocketing P5, 000, the second placer will have P4,000 while the third and fourth placers will get P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

This is one of the highlights in the celebration and commemoration of the annual historical event dubbed as Takas sa Talisay 2010: The landing of the American army during the World War 2, commemorating the 66th anniversary of American Liberation Day.

The Takas sa Talisay is the portrayal of the beach landing of the American Army during the World War 2 to liberate Cebu from the invading Japanese Army.

The said event is organized by the Talisay City Government in cooperation with the Talisay City Sports Commission. (FREEMAN)
