Bernido, Carter top Backpack Family Run

CEBU, Philippines - Ian Bernido and Madelyn Carter led the cast of winners in the 2011 Backpack Family Run after dominating the 15-kilometer race at the Ayala Terraces yesterday.

Bernido outsmarted Adonis Singson for the top spot of the premiere men’s class with the time of 52 minutes and 24.10 seconds as against the latter’s 52:28.76 clocking.

Alvirg Busa wound up third in 54:29:47, while the next two spots were occupied by Ronny Andrin with 58:04.66 and Tomas Nunez with an hour and four minutes and 52 seconds.

 Madelyn Carter, on the other hand, won the women’s open crown with 1:05:26.69 as against Cristy Tutor’s 1:05:46.60.

The third to fifth places were occupied by Jhean Andrin with 1:09:34.98, Lovely Fe Andrin with 1:10:06.88 and Mary Ann Benedicto with 1:19.25.52.

Reprinel Banzon came out the fastest in the 5K in 16 minutes and 47.10 seconds.

Riez Enriquez got the men’s 3K top spot with the time of 10:08.28 and Lynlie Cardenas in the women’s class in 11:40.18.

Six-year-old Ranz Ian Gilles and four-year-old Savannah Chiongbian grabbed part of the limelight after showcasing their wares in the 300m dash.

Gilles clocked in one minute and 10.7 seconds over Cole Andrei Unson in 1:18.16 as Alab Cinco landed third in 1:22.44.

Chiongbian ruled the girls class with a minute and 14.19 clocking. She was trailed by Ashley Gotico with 1:14.229 and Riyanna Eliza Bauzon with 1:15.96.

Commercial model-actor Derek Ramsey spiced upn the event along with beauty queen Miriam Quiambao.

Derek proved his athletic ability not only in freesbie but also in running by landing sixth in the 3K run with the time of 12:03.05. – THE FREEMAN
