CEBU, Philippines - Participants of the 2011 Paghandum ni Magsaysay Climbathon in Mt. Manunggal set March 19 will have a pre-race briefing on the 12th of this month at the office of Provincial Board Member Alex Binghay located at the Legislative Building of the Provincial Capitol.
The said event will be a 21-kilometer climbathon from the Municipal oval of Balamban all the way to Mt. Manunggal.
More to it, the last six kilometers is a "dirt" road that makes the event even more exciting.
"This is not your usual 21 kilometers city road. This is mostly uphill along the Transcentral Highway," said the man behind the event, Councilor Dave Karamihan.
The event will feature three classes – open, executive and fun runners.
Registration centers are at the Balamban Municipal Hall (Mayor's office) and the Columbia Store in SM (across Duty Free). Registration fee is pegged at P350.
One can submit and pay entry fees during the pre-race briefing.
There will no longer be an on-site registration to avoid delay of the race.
After the climbathon, there's also a mountain bike race set the following day.
Participants in the climbathon and mountain bike events will be provided free transportation. Pick-up area will be near JY square.
This event is part of the 54th commemoration of the death of President Ramon Magsaysay. It was March 17, 1957 that his plane, the Mt. Pinatubo, crashed in Mt. Manunggal.
