Chiongbian rules Rotary golf event

CEBU, Philippines - Jonji Chiongbian bagged the overall lowest gross title in Saturday's Rotary Friendship Golf Tournament, which also served as the February monthly medal of Cebu Country Club.

Chiongbian fired nines of 41 and 37 for a total of 78 strokes. He won the title after beating Jufil Sato, Nelson Yuvallos, Evans Tumaliwan, and Andy Parrott in the countback.

Yuvallos bagged the class A title with a net score of 69 strokes while runner-up honors went to Anton Florendo with a net 70.

Parrott ruled class B with his net score of 64 while David Lu finished as runner-up with a net score of 66.

Marcelo Tan won the class C title with a net score of 63 strokes while Steve Alcoseba finished as runner-up with a net score of 65. Alcoseba won the award after edging Park Sung Kyoo in the countback.

Angelo Barcelo matched Tan's tournament-best score of 63 and ruled class D. Runner-up honors went to Fruto Teodorico with a net 67 and beating Ramon Escario in the countback.

Ed Alegrado, who was captain of the seniors' team of Cebu Country Club in the PAL Interclub, topped the 60 years old and up division with a net score of 65. Runner-up honors went to Eddie Ong with 66.

Boy Alegre won the guest division title with a net score of 66 beating Loloy Sabuga in the countback. Sabuga settled for the runner-up honors.

There were a total of 164 players who participated comprising of 92 members and 72 guests.

Unfortunately, nobody got the 1.1 million worth of Hyundai Tucson, which was at stake as a hole-in-one prize.

The tournament was of good cause as the proceeds will go to the scholarship program of community scouts graduate, who will be enjoying a three-year full scholarship in college at the Center for Industrial Technology Enterprise (CITE).

The friendly tournament is one of the highlights of the rotary week celebration of District 3860.
