Cabaluna seizes lead in WYSC qualifying

CEBU, Philippines - Natalie Cabaluna snatched the lead after round eight in the 2011 World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) Visayas qualifying yesterday at the University of the Visayas quadrangle.

From third rank the other day, Cabaluna of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) took the driver’s wrest with seven wins and +620 spread.

Mary Grace Paredes of the UV jumped to second with six wins and +576 spread.

Orgie Albano of USJ-R occupied the third place with six wins and +540 spread, while his teammates Millefieren Rodriguez (+259 spread) and Phil Figues (+148) followed in fourth and fifth, respectiely.

First day topnotcher, Mae Villagonzalo of UV dropped to sixth with five wins and +861 spread.

Two slots for the Philippine Youth team are at stake in this qualifying tournament plus some cash for the top five finishers. (FREEMAN)
