Salvador-Go tandem tops adventure race
CEBU, Philippines - They started as reluctant participants, but finished as winners.
Karl Salvador and Jeff Benjamin Go, who were reportedly just forced to sign up for the 5th Chun Jiey Adventure Race at City Sports Club Cebu here, bagged the title of the event.
“When they told us to join the race, we gave a nod to it since we have nothing to lose. If we win, fine, if not, it’s ok,” said Karl Salvador during an informal press conference at CSCC.
Without any idea what’s going to happen, the tandem of Salvador and Go were trailing all the way until they got to the sixth spot, just enough to keep them in the race after the ninth control point.
The fortunes of the De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde export management graduate Salvador and Go, a third year nursing student at Velez College, changed and they grabbed the lead after they were able to identify the featured artist of a broadcasted song in approximately just 10 seconds.
With Salvador and Go’s victory, Kelie Ko and Floyd Te missed a grand slam.
Ko and Te were leading most of the way and even won most of the special prizes at stake in most control points until they reached control point 8 of 13 that caused them trouble after taking the instruction for the next challenge differently.
Ko and Te wound up second while David Lim Jr. and Vincent Villa ended third.
Challenges in the event participants had to deal with include counting paper hearts posted on a wall, finding a rabbit cut-outs in total darkness, karting at kartzone, going through a military obstacle course, learning German language and using it to decode a number to call out, spot a logo around the Cebu Business Park area, consuming a half pizza, counting tiles from one pool lane at the City Sports Club, finding words in over a hundred lanterns and identify the artist of a song.
