Gocela, Dizon top UPHS '84 golfest

CEBU, Philippines - Victor Gocela and Boyet Dizon led the winners in Thursday’s very wet UP Cebu High School Batch ‘84 Inc. Fun Golf Tournament played at the rain-soaked Mactan Island Golf Club.

Gocela fired nines of 39 and 39 for a total of 78 strokes to claim the lowest gross plum.

Dizon had a gross score of 80 on nines of 41 and 39 and established a System-36 handicap of 12 strokes for a net score of three-under-par 68. Dizon also won the award for most birdies.

The tournament was organized by UP Cebu High School batch ‘84 led by their president Rep. Pablo John Garcia of the 3rd District of Cebu Province. The co-chairmen of the tournament were Lt. Col. Jeffrey Jake Gallenero and Arsenio Pelicano.

The class A title went to Freddie Salimbangon with a net score of 70 off a gross 81. Second place went to Boy Alegre also with a net score of 70 while third placer was Rolando Alberto also with 70 strokes.

Razy Razon topped class B with a net 70 off a gross 84. Roy Damole finished second with a net score of 71 while third place went to Albert Solis with a net score of even-par 72 strokes.

Paolo Alberto was the class C champion shooting one-under-par 71 strokes and winning in the countback. Hermes Tangaan was second also with a net 71 while third place went to Rep. Peter Unabia with a net 72.

Lawyer Dally Chavez-Ohdate, a member of the host class, topped the ladies’ division with a net score of 74 strokes off a gross 94. Second place went to lawyer Christine Naranjo with a net score of 82 while Darlben Dumpit was third with a net 87.

Mina Ohdate, daughter of Dally, topped the junior golf division with a net 85 with Jet Gallenero taking the runner-up honors.

Rolando Alberto was feted for hitting the longest drive on hole number 1 with a tee shot that flew 250 yards. Rady Abarintos was nearest the pin on the island green of hole number 15 leaving 4 feet for a birdie try. He also won the special award for most bogeys by making 13 in the round.

The longest putt on hole number 18 went to Rhymus Gonzales nailing one from 22 feet away. Rep. Peter Unabia had the most accurate drive on hole number 17.

Vic Gocela also had the most pars with 11 while Lt. Col. Rene Sebastian won the award for most exercised.

The tournament dubbed as “A Shot at Life” was meant to raise funds for the scholars being supported by UP Cebu High School Batch ‘84. (FREEMAN NEWS)
