Alberto's Pizza-Nursing hoop opens Sunday

CEBU, Philippines - Nursing students from some of Cebu's top universities will show off their skills in shooting hoops via the Alberto's Pizza Cup-Nursing Edition set to blast on this Sunday at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gym in Brgy. Lahug, this city.

League coordinator Robert Rafson Chua said a total of eight teams have already confirmed their participation in the month-long contest, with Cebu Doctors' University (CDU) fielding in the most number of entries with three - Spartants, Renegades and Nursery.

The University of San Carlos (USC) will parade two squads, while the other title contenders are USPF, Southwestern University (SWU) and the combined forces of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).

The tournament follows a single round robin format, with the top four teams advancing into the crossover semifinals. The winners will then slug it out for the championship in a winner-take-all affair.

Aside from gift certificates worth P2,000, the champion will pocket P15,000 in cash prize, while the second and third will receive P7,000 and P3,000, respectively.

Depending on the success of their initial venture fully supported by Alberto's Pizza owners Sidney Kiamko, Donny Kiamco and Christine Reyes, Chua said they are planning to stage similar competition for call center agents and other aggrupation of professionals and community-oriented organizations.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
