Garcia bares PSC plan to tie-up with CCSC
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Sports Commission got the needed boost in its grassroots development program with the Philippine Sports Commission committing itself into a meaningful partnership towards total youth development.
PSC chairman Richie Garcia met with his local counterpart Edward Hayco and some commissioners yesterday at Yayoy’s Grill to express PSC's desire to tie up with CCSC.
“We can go a long way if we are partners (with CCSC). This will be the first organization that we will be partnering with,” Garcia said.
Garcia said instead of coming up with its own projects, it would be best if they work hand in hand with CCSC and involve the Cebu Province as a whole.
The formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be done within the next two months.
Whatever projects they will be able to implement here, it is expected that nearby provinces such as Bohol, Oriental Negros and Siquijor will duplicate it.
PSC under Garcia is geared towards molding the youth not only as a potential Olympic gold medalists, but to be good citizens.
“Statistics has it that only five percent are into sports, seven percent into prostitution and six percent into drugs. We are in bad shape as far as youth is concerned. Let us get them out of the streets, it will be more than winning 10 golds in the Asian Games,” Garcia added.
Garcia’s vision is something that CCSC under Hayco is also trying to instill not only to become the country’s superpower in sports, but for the values formation of young athletes.
Before such partnership will be finalized, however, Garcia had already committed to help CCSC with its sports programs and even expressed to facilitate in the acquisition of imported equipment as well as importation of materials to be used in the reconstruction of the CCSC oval.
PSC is also bent on donating equipment and paraphernalia in different sporting events that CCSC is focusing on. (FREEMAN)
