Two teams share golf lead

CEBU, Philippines - Two teams share the lead after the first round of the 30th Coral Invitational at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.

Andrew Parrott and Martin Bell combined for 83 points as well as Eugene Tio and Henry Chu to set the early pace.

The second half of the field of about 200 teams will be teeing off today for their first round in this 36-hole, four-day event.

Three points back are the teams of Ramon Sebastian and Renson Que and that of Nino Bascon and Dominic Hing with 80 points apiece.

Joe and Jingo Abellana combined for 79 points and are tied with the duo of lawyers Tito Pintor and Marlou Cugtas.

The tournament uses the Modified Stableford Scoring System.

Three teams are tied with 77 points apiece - Gerry Gollon/Tito Lerio, Jason Yu/Petronilo Flores, and Jufil Sato/Nestor Cabrera.

In the seniors' division, for teams whose total age is 120 years old an above, former basketball teammates Vince Colina and Bobby Barria continue to play well together as they combined for 81 points to lead the category.

Running second in the seniors' class is the team of Loloy Soriaga and Wally Warrick with 78 points.

Three teams are tied with 73 apiece - Maning Granada/Elro de los Reyes, Chito Misa/Nestor Santillan, and Cesar Chan/Danny Co.

The tournament is the annual member-guest event of the club.

Good weather prevailed yesterday, but the rains in the previous days forced organizers to declare the use of winter rules.
