Good job
The weekend was a blast!
The 2011 Cebu City Marathon was not only well attended, but also highly praised by both the participants and the community.
Well, there are those who complained about the closure of certain roads, but the organizers and the traffic authorities had worked closely to make sure that the disruption would be minimal.
The Sinulog Cup Football Festival was also a huge success. Although I never got a chance to make it there, those who covered the event and those who were there, told me that it was well organized.
I may be biased being a member of the Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC), but I did not have any hand in that tournament except probably to provide the usual moral support.
To the organizers of the Cebu City Marathon and the Sinulog Cup, congratulations for a job well done!
You made Cebu proud with what you’ve done.

I attended the turn over ceremony for the position of general manager of the Mactan Island Golf Club last Monday.
Retired General Rodante Joya, who has been much praised for the many things he had done for the club, has relinquished his post to Retired General Celedonio Boquiren, who had also been the assistant GM for the past six months.
This is the second time that I have attended a retirement ceremony for General Joya. The first was when he retired from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, but last Monday’s turnover did seem a little somber.
The friends of General Joya were there. So were the personnel of the golf club as well as representatives of the groundskeepers, caddies, and umbrella girls.
Maybe the people could not help but feel a bit emotional as General Joya had been so much part of the club and had contributed a lot to make MIGC what it is today.
In the past, when you mention that you’ll play in Mactan, most often you would be told that the course is in bad shape and your clubs would be hitting all sorts of rocks or debris buried under the fairway.
There was also nasty talk about members of the club that were notorious for their skill in deduction even when the penalties or the strokes are piling up.
All of that has been changed and General Joya made special mention of such in his valedictory address and ended it with a challenge to continue to live up to the new image of the Mactan golf course and player.
I believe that the transformation would not have been possible without the support of the council running the club and its dedicated members.
General Boquiren has huge shoes to fill, but the club members and the staff seem to be eager to offer him the same support that was given to his predecessor.
All the best to you sir!
