Lite Shipping bags Guy Lim cage title

CEBU, Philippines - Lite Shipping walked away with a hard-earned 81-77 victory over the gritty Cebu Movers System to complete a two-game sweep of their best-of-three finals series and snatch the championship of the Lucio "Guy" Lim, Sr. Memorial Cup basketball tournament at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

But what was expected to be another blowout by Lite Shipping, which took at least a 15-point lead in the first period, suffered rough-sailing when CMS grabbed the upperhand for the first time, 66-65, with still three minutes left in the contest.

However, Lite Shipping of team owner Niño Imboy and coach Elmer "Boy" Cabahug quickly recovered and tied the score for the last time at 70-all with 2:40 left to play.

Eming Batarilan then sparked a game-closing 11-7 run to lift Lite Shipping to a marginal four-point win. Batarilan topscored for Lite Shipping with 27 points.

Allan Cabral and ex-UV Lancer Dante Elim heavily backed up Batarilan with 43 points combined.

Franco Te, son of playing coach Dr. Boy Te, paced CMS with 23 points, while Inting Reyes chipped in with 19 markers.

The awarding ceremony is set on December 18 at the College Assurance Plan (CAP) building along Osmeña Boulevard, this city.

Meanwhile, the Guy Lim Cup holds its first ever All-Star Game today with three side events to be contested:the 3-point shootout, the 3-on-3 challenge pitting players from FAL Shipping against CMS and the 2-ball competition.
