Over a hundred players to join Retanal chessfest

CEBU, Philippines – More than a hundred wood pushers are expected to join the Retanal Bros. Chess Club Amusement Corporation Chess Tournament starting at 10:30 am onwards on December 11 and 12 at the Sports Exchange Bar and Grill, Mango Square Mall, this city.

The two-day contest which features Open and Kiddies category follows a 7-round Swiss system format.

Aside from local bets like Isamae Capeciño and Queenie Pearl Retanar, the organizers are also expecting visiting chess players from Mindanao and Manila to join the tournament.

The champion in the open division will take home P5,000, while the second and third placers will receive P3,000 and P2000. The rest of the top ten placers will receive consolation prizes of P500 each.

Meanwhile, the top three winners in the kiddies category will claim P1,000, P700 and P500 plus a chess set and the rest of the top ten will receive P150 each.

Entry fee is pegged at P175 for club members and P200 for non-members in the open bracket, while the registration for Kiddie club members are at P75 and P100 for non members.

The event is jointly sponsored by Pepsi, Montebello Villa Hotel, Julies

Bakeshop, San Miguel Beer, Rose Pharmacy, South Western University, Planet biz, Cala Espresso and Sports Exchange Bar and Grill.
